Investigation of the effects of different levels of chromium-methionine supplementation on growth parameter, digestibility and pH of rumen fluid in Mehraban lambs

Introduction: This research was conducted in order to investigate and compare the
effect of three types of chromium supplements, including organic, inorganic and
nano chromium, on growth, digestibility and pH of rumen fluid .
Materials & methods: 24 Mehraban male lambs, 3-4 months old, with an average
weight of 30.85±1.78 kg, using a completely randomized design, in the form of 4
treatments (each treatment includes 6 repetitions) and tested for 60 days. were placed
Experimental treatments included: 1) basic diet (control group), 2) basic diet+0.8 mg
inorganic chromium, 3) basic diet + 0.8 mg organic chromium and 4) basic diet+0.8
mg nanochrome supplement.
Results: In this experiment, the use of organic chromium (treatment 3) caused a
significant increase in the final weight of lambs compared to the control group
(p<0.05). All three treatments containing chromium increased the daily weight and
decreased the food conversion ratio. The effect of supplementation in chromiumcontaining
treatments on the digestibility of DM and OM was not significant
compared to the control group (p>0.05). Also, treatments 2, 3, and 4 had no
significant effect on the digestibility of EE, CP, and NDF (p>0.05), but it had a
significant effect on the digestibility of ADF (p<0.05). In addition, all three
mentioned treatments had no significant effect on rumen fluid pH of fattening lambs
(p>0.05).
Conclusion: Performance of lambs under the influence of organic and nano
chromium supplements and ADF digestibility were improved by using all three
supplements
