Isolation of Aspergillus fumigatus from Hospital Environments and Patients and Evaluation of Lactobacillus Spp. Effects on the Isolates in Wasit Province

Abstract

Pulmonary aspergillosis is a severe infection in immunocompromised caused by Aspergillus fungi include Aspergillus fumigatus (the most frequently cultured of this genus). The current study was aimed to study the antifungal activity of Lactobacillus against Aspergillus fumigatus that isolated from different clinical cases. For this study, 125 samples were collected from Hospital Environments and Patients, from November 2025 to the march 2026. A. fumigatus using PCR technique to indicate presence of ITS genes.  The result of sequences was showed the presence of virulence genes ( Gli P and SidA ) in the examined isolates. In addition, Evaluation of Lactobacillus spp. Effects on the Isolates of Aspergillus fumigatus, Antimicrobial activity of the cell free culture supernatants (CFCS) was tested against the Aspergillus fumigatus. The cell- free supernatant (CFS) of Lactobacilli (0%,25%,75%,) No inhibition was observed at 0%, 25%, 50%, or 75% concentrations in all ten tested samples. At 100% concentration, inhibition was observed in the ten samples.
