Abstract

Introduction: Considering the importance of blood lipid factors on diabetes and
cardiovascular health, the main purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of four
types of probiotic compounds on lipid and enzyme factors in diabetic rats.
Materials and Methods: In this experiment, 50 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into
ten groups (5 series). Ten Experimental groups included: (healthy control), healthy recipient
of mixed bacteria isolated from Yogurt, healthy recipient of pure lactobacilli bacteria, healthy
recipient of mixed bacteria isolated from yogurt plus oleic acid, healthy recipient of pure
lactobacilli bacteria plus oleic acid, diabetic control, diabetic recipient of mixed bacteria
isolated from yogurt , Diabetic receiving pure lactobacilli, diabetic receiving mixed bacteria
isolated from yogurt plus oleic acid, and diabetic receiving pure lactobacilli plus oleic acid.
Results: The results showed that in healthy mice, all experimental treatments significantly
increased serum glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides and decreased LDL. In healthy mice,
the probiotic Lactobacillus significantly reduced the serum HDL. In diabetic rats,
supplementation of all experimental treatments significantly reduced blood glucose,
cholesterol, LDL and HDL. In this group, the greatest effect of reducing serum glucose,
cholesterol and LDL was related to probiotic treatment produced from yogurt plus oleic acid.
In both healthy and diabetic groups, experimental treatments significantly increased serum
levels of liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP and CK). The greatest effect of increasing the serum
activity of liver enzymes in the diabetic group was related to the treatment of lactobacillus
plus oleic acid.
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the greatest effect of probiotics in reducing
serum levels of liver enzymes and reducing serum lipid parameters was related to a mixture
of probiotic bacteria and this effect was greater in diabetic mice than healthy mice.
